Things that no one tells you about your wedding day!

My wedding was on Saturday September 10, 2011.  Preparations go on for months on end; meetings with vendors, flower selections, food tasting, and selecting the music take so much time, effort, and money that you reach the evening before the wedding excited that you’re finally done with all the running around.

Then comes wedding day!

No matter how early you decide to sleep, you can’t help but lie awake just recapping everything, trying to remember if you forgot something or making a list of things that you must make sure go absolutely well on the day.

Hair and make-up usually go according to schedule and plan, but no matter how comfortable you hair do is by the end of the night, you will feel like you have been carrying a 7 pound baby on your head, neck, and shoulders all day.  No matter how soft or natural your make up is, by the end of the night you would need an extra garbage been to dispose of all the make-up remover wipes.

No matter how many phone calls you make to the vendors, the photographer will manage to be a little late, and the zaffe party will manage to be a little early to arrive to your house.

No matter how much your groom loves you, and how much he was looking forward for that day you finally become his, he will manage to be a little late…because of TRAFFIC!

No matter how many times you check the weather forecast and it says clear and sunny skies, that odd cloud will come out and give you a little suspense and keep you on your toes.

Even if you mention on the invitation card that guests are required to arrive at 8 p.m. and you confirm that timing when you call to confirm attendance, still guests will still manage to arrive just 2 minutes before the bride and groom make their entrance.

It is of extreme importance to keep an emergency pack of everything with you (your mother of brides maid) that has some flats, safety pins, a needle and thread, wet wipes, deodorant and lip gloss.

Regardless of your efforts, people will still complain, even the closest to you, some people will still get things wrong, and some people will still eat and run… but no matter what, you will enjoy it, remember every second even if it all felt like a second.

Picking Wedding Flowers

One of the primary components that make up a wedding’s decoration is flowers.  They set the tone, the theme, and even make the wedding as romantic or as bold as their kinds and colors.
I believe that the darker, more dramatic flowers give a sense of warmth and sexiness to the entire theme, were as the lighter shades of pastels, yellows, and whites give it a pure yet colder look.
For the past few years, almost each wedding I attended had either white or pastel colored flowers; which makes it done to death…yet it is still classic, and classy for that matter.
Having a September wedding makes me even more motivated to include the rich colors of the fall in the flower center pieces and stairway railings.
Decisions...decisions…

Wedding Invitations

In my previous wedding related post, I had mentioned all the elements related to the wedding but left out the wedding invitations. I always thought that wedding invitations were the thing least important, but now I realize that they present an introduction to the entire wedding, especially if they are made to reflect the wedding’s theme.

Love the golden scroll, never seen that done before

I like the way it's tied with a ribbon, white and gold

The sheer paper and ribbon give a very elegant effect together

Typical Indian Invitation Card

Again with the off white and ribbons

Forget the 90th birthday, I like the colors

(Please vote for the invitations you like best by commenting, thank you)
For the past few days, I have been working on the guest list.  I started off with a wedding of 150 people, jumped to about 170, but now it seems I’ll have to rocket up to a party of 190 people.

I think I’ll have to make a new budget.

Wedding Follies

“Planning a wedding isn’t a light matter.”

How many times have u heard that?  Trust me, it’s nothing compared to when you are actually doing it, and doing it for your self.  I have been with my fiancĂ© for a year and a little less than three months, of that time; we have been engaged for about eight months.  We plan to get married on September 10, 2011.

Each wedding has stable elements such as a venue, a caterer, some flowers, a photographer, and entertainment.  But trying to give it a twist isn’t too simple, especially when traditions and expectations play a significant role.  Another factor that gets me scratching my head with innovation is the fact that my sister in law and my fiancĂ©’s cousin are getting married in the same season.

Imagine the competition!

For the past few months I’ve been checking different venues to find the one with the right structure and landscaping.  I was looking for something outdoors, pool side, great view of the city and with stairs for me to come down on.

I finally found it, and reserved it yesterday!  Enough details!

Selecting the caterer was made easy for me considering that my venue had an exclusive caterer that throws one spectacular banquet.  Similarly, the venue also has an exclusive light and sound engineer that is guaranteed to get the party going.

What were left were the photographer and florist; until I attended the Wedding Follies Expo in BIEL.  This exhibition collects most of the event planners, venues, photographers, florists, car rental agencies, travel agencies, hair stylists, haute couture, and many other vendors which a bride to be might need to get her wedding on track.  At the Wedding Follies I managed to get a great deal on a photographer and florist.

What comes next is the rest of the entertainment, the fire works, and more surprises all under a new theme I’m yet to reveal.
